Faculty of Physics:

In 1391, the faculty of physics separated from the Faculty of Science and independently continued its work under the name of the Faculty of Physics.

The Faculty of Physics consists of three main groups of Atomic-Molecular, Solid State and Astronomy-High-Energy physics, which has 19 faculty members and more than 350 students at various levels, is active in various fields of physics, especially plasma, medical plasma, new energies, photonics, biophotonics, lasers, computational physics, nano-physics, gravity and black holes, string theory, cosmology, astronomy and astrophysics.

The Faculty of Physics has 19 faculty members, including 4 professors, 4 associate professors, 12 assistant professors and 1 lecturer.

It also has facilities such as: three  different research centers including: 1-laser and optics 2- solid state physics 3- plasma physics, specialist library, well equipped laboratories and computer sites for graduate students and observatory.

It should be noted that the field of plasma medicine was first established in the country at Kharazmi University.

The research activities of the various groups are summarized as follows.

A.   Atomic & Molecular Group:

1.Medical Plasma and Plasma physics:

The medical field first began working in Iran at Kharazmi University. The group is equipping an advanced laboratory for plasma and medical plasma.

There are many students studying and conducting research in the plasma trends in the Master and Ph.D. degrees.

Faculty members active in these fields of research are Dr. Hasan Mahdian (Professor), Dr. Ali Hasanbeigi (Associate Professor) and Dr. Kamal Haji Sharifi (Assistant Professor).

2.Photonics, Nanophotonic, Biophotonics and Nanophysics:

This group has 4 advanced research laboratories. In these laboratories, many activites in the field of nanoscience, solar cells, synthesizing and investigating the properties of nanoscale materials, advanced optics, nonlinear optical materials, laser interactions and materials, bio-optics, and related subjects at the master's and doctoral level are doing.

Faculty members active in these fields are Dr. Mohammad Hossein Majlesra (Professor), Dr. Somayeh Salmani (Assistant Professor) and Dr. Mohammad Hossein Khalkhali (Assistant Professor) and Dr.Esmaeel Heydari (Assistant Professor).

3.Theoretical Laser:

At the Faculty of Physics, research activities and numerous dissertations on theoretical laser are conducted at the master's and doctorate levels. The main goal of this group is based on researches on theoretical approaches for studying lasers properties in advanced level.

Dr. Jafar Jahanpanah (Professor) is the head of these research topics.

B.   Solid State Group:

1.Solid State Theory:

In the field of simulation, the magnetic material of theoretical nano-physics, DFT, and related topics, many activities are underway at the master's and doctorate levels.

Faculty members active in this field include Dr. Faramarz Kanjouri (Assistant Professor), Dr. Mohammad Bagher Fathi (Assistant Professor), Dr. Fahimeh Karimipour (Assistant Professor), Dr. Mohammad Hossein Khalkhali (Assistant Professor), and Dr. Salman Mohajer (Assistant Professor).

2.Applied Solid State:

The Faculty of Physics has two research laboratories in the field, one of which has a very advanced layout that is notorious for the Middle East. In these laboratories, different types of solids, in particular in the field of new energies such as solar cells, optical and electrical properties of thin films and related subjects with the concentration on coating are being investigated.

Dr. Mohammad Esmaeil Azim Araghi (Professor) is the head of the field.

3.Computational Physics:

In the Faculty of Physics, extensive activities are undertaken in the fields of computational physics, simulation of physical phenomena and related subjects at the master's and doctoral levels.

The faculty member is Dr. Faramarz Kanjouri (Assistant Professor).

C.   Astronomy-High Energy Group:

In the field of Astronomy-High Energy Group, extensive activities are carried out by faculty members both in the promotion of science and in the field of astronomical research.

1.Theoretical Particle physics:

Theoretical Particle physics group studies on fields of fundamental particle physics, string theory, gravity, black hole physics, AdS / CFT duality, primary cosmology and data analysis and excellent research is done at the master's and doctorate levels.

Faculty members active in these fields are Dr. Shahram Khosravi (Assistant Professor), Dr. Ali Vahedi (Assistant Professor), Dr. Saeed Tavassoli (Assistant Professor) and Dr. Mohammad Ali Ganjali (Assistant Professor).

The astronomy section research program aims not only at understanding the main issue of modern physical astronomy but also develop it for popular science. Also the study of different object related to observation is one of the main goals of this section.

The Physics Faculty Observatory, located at the Karaj campus, involves various activities including observations of various astronomical phenomena with good accuracy and theoretical calculations of these phenomena.

Dr Farzan Momeni (Assistant Professor) is the head of this section.
